They will be noticed by anyone who strolls through an REI (or any other similar store) and pays attention.
Vasque boots are everywhere.
I bought a pair of hiking boots from REI about 10 years ago which at first appeared to be REI brand boots. Though they had REI logos on them, they were stamped Raichle inside the tongue. Those were fantastic... the Raichle/REI replacement boot from about 3 years ago was a disappointment. The nice thing about REI is that they took 'em back with no questions asked (seams were splitting, albeit one year later... but boots like that should be good for a decade with the only real wear item being the sole, which is, as we know in this thread, easily taken care of).
I've had hiking boots re-soled, and one pair of Birkenstocks. I had a friend who had Vibram hiking soles put on his Birks. Nice.
