I'd think the new Chinese partner would be very much interested in preserving existing Saab identity. As much as I myself see the humor in the original post, and the executives of the private Chinese company trying to become the new partner with Spyker/Saab probably being cosmopolitan enough and profit-driven enough not to mind it either, the bureaucrats wielding the regulatory approval power may not take lightly to anything that remotely smells of slight. Just like to the EIB folks, any lost business opportunity is no loss off their own nose, whereas if any deal approved then later turning out to be duds or embarrassement may well cost them their cushy pension plans.
Frankly, it's a miracle any business deal ever gets approved by government bureaucrats; it was no coincidence that Soviets kept making late 1940's cars four decades later: almost all design improvement proposals had been shot down by bureaucrats who could not personally benefit from improvements but would suffer gravely if the risk associated with any change materializes.
