Well said. And will stay the case for a long time to come despite all our technological progress. If cars and railroads had not been invented, people cloistered on the east sea board (if not back in Europe) would not have known or worried about the sand storm in Phoenix. New transportation technologies opened up new frontiers to people . . . at the same time exposed people to new sets of challenges . . . periodically reminding us just how puny we are and how humble we ought to be despite our frequent marvel at our own achievements and other forms of hubris and self-aggrandizement.
