The hole is about 2-inches above the floor of the shallow end. When we had the deck replaced surrounding our in gorund vinyl lined pool 7 years ago the contrctor broke all the concrete with sledge hammer. No space to bring in any type of breaker, although an electric jack hanner would have worked.
Previous to replacing the entire deck I replaced two or three sections by breaking them out with a sledge. Easier than you think, 3-1/2 inch concrete doesn't have a lot of strength.
