We're technically what's called a live-in, "Domestic Couple" (do a search on that if you want info)--the wife usually does household chores while the husband does more outdoor and mechanical stuff. Every job is different--mostly it's sort of an odd juxtiposition of huge responsibility and menial taskes--essentially it's whatever needs doing. As an example, in Aspen we were solely responsible for a 15 million dollar house (in the owners absense) full of antiques, artwork, furs and jewelry and yet I also ran errends, washed cars, mowed the lawn, etc. We would usually deal with vendors, make minor and major purchases, in essense you become their "right hand." They come to depend of you very heavily and the odd thing is you become almost a member of the family. It's very hard to find people who can do this kind of work and if you're good at it (it requires a wide range of esoteric skills and knowledge) they tend to value you very highly and treat you eceedingly well. You get to live in some beautiful locations, and often get to travel (they typically have more than one estate) and there's jobs like this all over the world. For all of the seemingly simple, menial stuff it's still one of the most challenging and at times difficult, jobs I've ever had.
