I go to smaller tire dealers or shops where they have a Hunter Road Force machine so the balancing is done the way Saab needs it. A really small indy won't have one of those machines and there's a big difference in the final results.
It's better than the big shops, but still not perfect. Then again, when I only need fast and easy on a Japanese car, the big shops can handle - as long as they don't screw up the other things mentioned here (wheels, paint, oil, leather, etc).
I'd never use Sears. Bottom of the barrel. I wouldn't let them check the air in my tires let alone change them.
