Yes, a conventional drivetrain is complex, but we know how to make them very reliable and long-lived. I have two old Saabs with near 300,000 miles on the odometer that can attest to that, as well as decades-old "brand X" models that have never needed major drivetrain service.
With a hybrid you have both an IC engine and a battery pack to worry about. No thanks! Pure electric might be the ticket in the future if there is either a revolutionary new battery developed or something like "Mr. Fusion" comes into play. Until then it's gas or diesel for my money.
