A 9-5 is lot's more car. Much tighter as in less squeaks and rattles. Incredible sport seats, better stereo too. I much prefer the 9-5 interior and controls. I also think the styling is more dynamic and unique with the clamshell hood and the sweep of the rear window line. 9-3SS is a little smooth and shapeless for my tastes.
And I agree with John Meyers, 2003 9-3SS were a touch troublesome where as the 9-5's were pretty dead solid and sorted by 2004.
