I have been hoping one of these two will scoop up Saab for a song out of bankruptcy. Saab and BMW collaborated on the future 9-1 model, and BMW's leadership has been quoted as being dismayed at loss of sales because the public sees them as too performance oriented. Adding Saab to their single brand stable could benefit them. Plus, they may have a European capacity shortage since all 3-Series SUVs are being built in South Carolina.
Subaru has been about the only brand seeing huge sales gains in the last three years. They too are a single brand automaker and may benefit from an upscale sibling. All current Saab models have AWD capability as an option so Subie would not be diluting their brand panache built around AWD with the acquisition of Saab. Both have Rallying history, both appeal to some of the same buyers.
