Turkish Government Interested In Saab - Report
12-30-11 7:42 AM EST
FRANKFURT -(Dow Jones)- The Turkish government has expressed interest in insolvent Swedish car maker Saab, a unit of Swedish Automobile NV (SWAN.AE), German magazine Auto Motor und Sport reports in a preview of an article to be published Jan. 4, 2012.
Quoting people from Saab management, the magazine reports Chief Executive Victor Muller initiated talks with Turkey in order to possibly allow the ailing company to continue production.
So far, Turkey has no independent car manufacturer, but the country is already an important manufacturing base for companies such as Ford (F), Fiat SpA (F.MI), and Renault SA(RNO.FR).
The magazine adds that Saab's talks with Turkey are at a preliminary stage.
A Saab Auto spokesman couldn't comment as the company is under administration. A person speaking on behalf of Saab's administrator couldn't be reached immediately.
