On the back of the Canadian dime there's a schooner called Bluenose.
The ship only lost one competition against US schooners. She was built
in and her home port was Lunenburg, 80 miles south of Halifax. She fished
the Grand Banks.

She also ran booze into the US during prohibition. There's a lot more
to Lunenburg than the Bluenose.

The old route along the coast to get there was one my family drove many times (from PEI through Halifax) to go see Grandma & etc. This was before
anything approaching a Saab's handling was available.

Old coastal routes in Canada will be much like those in Maine. Regrettably,
though I grew up in the Maritimes and spent time in all three Provinces
(including NFLD makes it "Atlantic Provinces") I never did drive the
Cabot Trail. It's said to be a must. Check the photography online.

PEI is good for warm water beaches, (my fav was Brackley) golf, theater and just hanging out. It has been said that PEI had more paved roads per
resident than any Province in Canada. Roads must be paved. The soil is
sandy (and red due to high iron content). Unpaved roads would be impassable in the spring.

Halifax has good night life; lots of talented musicians. Maritimers
are warm and friendly. Newfs are even friendlier than Maritimers and of the Maritimers, PE Islanders are the warmest. If you like horse races,
that's something else you might do on PEI (close historical connections with Florida racing).
sulky racing.
