Eventhough a Right Hand Turn on Red is nearly universally allowed nationwide, I refuse to do so IF the oncoming left hand turn lane has a separate and illuminated green arrow or light just for them. Of course those behind me waiting to turn right on red are never happy, but so be it. I'll wait until the oncoming Left Turn lane no longer has a green signal and then execute my Right Turn on Red.
What is more scary in my local area are those drivers in the left turn lane who jump the green. Meaning they execute their left turn immediately upon the lights turning green for straight thru traffic, and directly in front of suddenly accelerating straight traffic. One local intersection is particularly bad for this and some day someone will die there as a result.
