ZAAB is right on, you don't need to worry about the modulator and running a wire to the battery. As he mentioned though, you do need the kit with the box to convert the "European" separate turn signals to the US four wire trailer set up. This is just an inline box, it's super cheap, and isn't a big deal, but you do need it.
The only thing I would add is that most Saabs have a very nice trailer wiring plug (on the 9000 it's by the drivers side tail light, don't know about other cars). You can tap into this instead, or if you want a nice plug and play solution you can get the very nice factory wiring harness and not worry about the hassle of running wires each time you use the trailer.
