The first to fail may bring relief to the others, but if the death rattles are prolonged too long none of the remaining brands may be strong enough to survive in the face of competition from Korea, Eastern Europe, and soon China.
Fiat is probably the strongest of the lot due to Marchionne's pragmatism and planning, and current benefit of their connection to Chrysler who is turning into a cash-cow for them.
Nissan was a savior for Renault not too long ago but now both are staggering.
