OT: Federally published interest rate for annuities?? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 14:02:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My employer changed our pension plans again recently, it seems to be on a two year cycle, and in addition to the reduction in future pension accruals we now have the chance to take our pension as a lump sum,
Effective Oct 1st these lump sum values jumped by ~10% as result of an interest rate reduction. I don't expect interest rates to remain at their current lows or reduce further - in fact both Bernacke and Geinther have cautioned the US to expect rates to start creeping upward in 2013 - so I need to cash out my pension before Sept 30th of 2013 when the amounts will updated again.
The ideal scenario will be to secure a new job with an employer I trust (boy, will that be a change!), retire from my present position, and then invest the lump sum until my *permanent* retirement in another 9 to 12 years.
What Federally determined interest rate is used by pension plans for this value calculation, and where is it published?
Thanks,
