Personal Assessment and Linked In Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 15 Jan 2013 03:46:00 In Reply to: Career Change / Growth Industries? -- LONG, EGD [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 14 Jan 2013 20:20:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
First step is to define what you want to do, and identify your employable strengths. Knowing these, create a Linked In account (if you don't already have one) and join Groups associated with these attributes. A quick search turned up many Polymers groups, a few generic Materials groups, and many Nano Technology groups. Assuming you still enjoy Materials Engineering.
My experience is that Linked In Groups all have extensive Jobs Lists. Professional contacts with the outside companies with whom you interact can also be a great source of job leads. I am learning that many smaller businesses contact each other for leads on potential new employees prior to posting a job opening. You may only know people at company "A", but they may know that company "G" is looking for someone with specific skills and experience.
Another option, even if short term, might be Patent Research. My oldest son works for a Patent Law firm and they are always looking for experienced technical people with specific expertise to review Patent Applications for clients and research previous filings and technologies in that realm. Although I'm not sure I would like this work, he loves it and the work is low stress.
Best of luck in your job search.
