Mixing All-Season Performance Brands

For any later model SAABs -- mine's a 2002 9-5 Aero 5-speed -- has anyone tried mixing all-season high performance tires, i.e., two of one brand front, two of another brand rear?
Two of my current Michelin Pilot Sport AS Plus are about done, while the other two have a fair amount of wear left. I'd like to change to Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position based on inputs appearing in these pages, but Tire Rack "doesn't recommend" mixing two different brands while I wait for the other two to wear down. Local tire guys, on the other hand, were fine on mixing the existing all-season performers with a Michelin touring tire, an option I rejected because I emphasize performance.
I realize Tire Rack is correct in terms of seeking the optimum, but can I get away with the mix in the interest of not wasting two fairly good Michelins. Given the frustratingly fast wear of the AS Plus, it shouldn't be long before I've gone all Potenza. Thanks.
