The all-in-one's do eliminate the condensation issue (for the most part, I suppose you could still have some with regen), and definitely take up less floor space.
They're probably OK if your water isn't too hard.
I just don't know if they're OK for the long haul.
IF you have minimal hardness problems and no rust or odor problems, I'd suggest just softening your hot water feed.
You could also include a bypass around the softener, and blend the "raw" water with the softened and reduce your salt usage.
For the condensation issue, I wrapped 1/2" elastomeric sheet and glued edges. I realize not everyone has that luxury.
