I have purchased my Tech2 set back in 2015 for $260 (amazing that it was cheaper back then). When I got it the LCD was not working - the image was scrambled and barely readable. The seller wanted me to send it back at my expense for a refund - I said no and just filed a dispute with AliExpress and got all my money back. After that the seller was much more willing to negotiate. I have ended up buying a $60 replacement LCD for Tech2 (yes, all the spare parts are also availabe) and it fixed the problem. The repair just required rundoing a few screws and unplugging a connector. After that I have just sent $200 to the seller.
So AliExpress is a reliable vendor platform just like eBay. I have made maybe around a hundred purchases there over the years and never had a problem with a credit card or merchandise not delivered.
You are at a much higher risk of your credit card info stolen at an American brick-and-mortar store according to all the news.
