I believe Eeuroparts no longer has evaporators for the 9000. I did a quick search and it looks like esaabparts.com has one in stock - for over $660! Also may be available from other vendors or from overseas. (Is it the same part on wrong-side drive cars from the UK? No idea.) At least you don't have to take the dashboard out of the car to get to it.
Usually the way to check for evaporator leaks is to use an electronic sniffer to poke around the vents and under the dash after running the AC. Another possibility would be to pull out the cabin air filter and sniff around in there.
