For just OBD II stuff:
I have tried the super cheap bluetooth versions and they are hit or miss. You sort of have to order 2 or 3, test them, and keep the one that works.
I prefer, and would recommend, the higher quality ones like this:
Bafx Products - Wireless Bluetooth Obd2 Scanner Diagnostic Code Reader
or if you need/prefer WiFi this one:
KINGBOLEN WiFi OBD2 Scanner OBD2 Car Code Reader
I use the Carista app (https://caristaapp.com/vehicles) to connect to the device.
But bear in mind that ODB II is very limited. It cannot read any ABS or SRS codes, it can only read engine data/codes, and even at that only the limited set defined in the ODB spec. You'll need a Tech 2 to read everything.
That said I keep one in each of my cars, they are handy and convenient. I have a Tech 2 as well, but I don't lug that around in the car ... It sure as heck wont fit in the glove box!
