Under the black "rubber" boot there is a casing of hard plastic - inside that, the coils are filled with oil - and when the plastic casing cracks, oil will leak out. If you're a "parts collector", it might be worth saving the removable rubber boot, as these sometimes get stuck to the spark plugs and rip, particularly if you don't coat the inside surface with silicon release goo.
