What car to get after a two 9-5s thread Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 6 Mar 2023 18:24:58 In Reply to: Another what car to get after a NG 9-5 thread, Name Left Blank, Mon, 6 Mar 2023 18:06:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When I replaced my 2008 OG9-5 Aero at 250K miles (I put 318K miles on my 2000 9-5), I replaced it with a used 2019 Subaru Outback with the Touring Package - their nicest interior. I consider the Touring Package to match the quality of the SAAB interior, with LOTS more in-cabin storage.
So far, ~2 years and 35K miles later, the Outback has proven to be a great choice for us. It has a smidgen more cargo capacity than my wife's 2006 9-3SC when hauling stuff to distant family members, and the higher seats are nice as we are now aging into our mid'60s. The vehicle also fits in one-half of our two car garage. Many of today's vehicles are too large to do this.
I miss the turbo.
Our Outback has the flat six engine so there is plenty of power, just not the 'slam you into your seat backs' acceleration my Aero provided. Mileage seems to be correlated to octane rating of the fuel. Burning higher octane, or No Alcohol fuel, has yielded highway fuel mileage of 30-32 MPG. But these are NOT rigorous tests, just personal deliberate observations over time.
Best of luck in your quest. Nothing really like a SAAB is out there. Although I did see a Subaru Legacy this morning while out for a walk, and my heart jumped a little with the realization that maybe this car would be a good comparison/replacement to our beloved 9-5's, but I understand these are very rare in the used market with the US love affair for CUVs. And the new ones have a Turbo Four!
