We're down one Saab, as my faithful '01 Aero finally rusted out to the point of being unrepairable. It's been a really long time since I bought a car, and I guess I can't really consider another Saab as the local "whisperer" shut his doors and retired with virtually no notice. Keeping the other 2 9-5 wagons still in our local stable will remain a bit of a task, since I'm not a wrench turner by any stretch of the imagination. I only know of 1 Saab Master Tech still working around here.
The Aero came from Maryland as a CPO, but I went to Buffalo, NY to get it at a Saab/Cadillac mutant dealership, having seen its history via an Iris report. I know enough NOT to buy a used car from the Rust Belt, but what about from the Sun Belt? If you look online, there isn't much conclusive evidence about, say, Florida cars tending to rust early. Would you buy a 5-year-old "fancy" (I consider the Aero to have been a "fancy" Saab...) vehicle from Florida with 1 owner and a clear CarFax history of regular maintenance? The dealer is far away from me, but has stellar online reviews, and is a regular franchise dealership, as opposed to two guys with a parking lot and a Web conection.
I'm pretty bummed out in general at losing the Aero, but have got to face the music sooner or later. TIA for your advice!
