My 2006 9-3 Aero convert (excellent cond. / 70K miles) was involved in a minor front-end collision recently. The other driver pulled out between a line of cars and it was unavoidable. Police report said they were at fault. Now the fun part...their insurance adjuster low-balled the repair cost by using LKQ & aftermarket parts, and repair/repaint the bumper cover instead of replacing it. My body shop estimated the repair work at almost twice what the adjuster offered and the adjuster wants supplements from the shop to reach the total amount. I'm new to all this, so I guess that is pretty normal (??) but it is next to impossible being caught between the adjuster and the body shop, not having any leverage. I found all the necessary body parts new on esaab, but the insurance co. claims my own policy allows for used/aftermarket parts for repairs. Also wondering about how to recover diminished value after the car is repaired. These cars are becoming so difficult to value - is it worth getting an attorney involved for a relatively low dollar claim? I have been hesitant to bring this to my insurance co's attention, because making a claim on my policy might cause my rates to go up, even not being at fault. Any advice would be welcomed!
