Being a bloody-minded contrarian is a good thing, especially when it comes to safety, snob appeal, dog ownership, driving comfortably in bad weather, hauling stuff around, and identifying with Scandinavian and aircraft design virtues.
The other day, a 325i blitzed into the lane beside me up to a red light. As we parted on the green, and at peak torque and rpm speed, where the 9-3 turbo becomes one of the more robustly accelerating cars on the road, I hit it and skunked the SOB for about 350 feet. Coming up to a 2nd stale green/yellow light, and sensing the 325i was going to take over anyway, I backed off.
The feckless 323i-er ended up doing one of those dangerously ambiguous slam-on-your-brakes//////accelerate-through-the-red-light tricks while I cruised up to the red.
He paid $10K more for this car? ............Why?
I'm no boy racer. I'm too old for that Tom-foolery. But this was a hoot!
When I went to the dealership to pick up this Darth Vader-mobile (It's black.), I brought out the ABBA 'best-of' CD and plugged it in the dash on the way home. ABBA was just becoming popular again after many years being away. So was SAAB. Both are happy things: the ABBA music and the SAAB ownership. Not for everyone but then, that's why I like them.
I actually change my own oil and plugs because I want to. This was unheard of with the other cars! I think it's building a relationship with me.
