I agree with you about the SUVs in suburbia, and it sounds like you enjoy driving your 9-3 as much as I do mine. :-)
But 28.6 MPG is pretty good based on my experience, so now I am curious. Is this typical gas mileage for your 9-3? What is the model (base/SE), year, mileage, and trasmission on your 9-3? What octane gas do you use and do you use dino or synthetic oil?
I do a mixture of city and highway driving in my 2000 9-3 base and was getting around 25-26 MPG pretty consistently on 89 octane and Castrol 10W-30 oil. I switched to Mobil 1 10W-30 on my last oil change and it seems to have bumped the MPG up about 1 MPG, on average. I have the manual transmission which also ought to be helping with gas mileage. Just passed 16,000 miles and my 9-3 will be a year old at the end of this month.
