I'm SOOOO done with Absolute SAAB, Encinitas, CA Posted by bryan [Email] (#542) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bryan) on Thu, 10 May 2001 21:00:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
which is too bad, because I think basically Paul (owner) is basically a good guy, but i've watched that business go steadily downhill over the last two years. I just bought my last parts from them after increasingly poor service, a reduction in staff (reduction, or they all quit and he can't hire anybody else?) Their prices are fairly high, but again, i tried to support the only saab indy around.
Today i went to pick up a few intake manifold grommets, and a used sway bar end link since I found a bend in one of mine when redoing the front end. I had everything I needed except that part to put it all back together, and it was supposed to be waiting for me since I had ordered it two days previous.
I swing by between sales calls, expecting to find the parts sitting somewhere with an invoice where I can just whip in, pay for it, and get back on the road. When I arrive, there are two other (not looking too pleased) customers in his office. He keeps us all waiting while he talks some back and forth BS with someobody on the other end about his race car. He sees me (not looking too happy) and goes in the back to fish out the manifold grommets, then the phone rings again. He leaves us all standing there and says 'you're all going to have to wait 10 minutes, i have to pick up my kid from school'.....grrrrrr.....20 minutes goes by. By this time i'm about ready to take a hostage, since the delays are putting me right in the middle of some of the worst rush hour traffic in the country (5th worst, actually).
So, he finally comes back, lets this other customer PAY finally (she waited 30 mins just to PAY for an oil change!), he goes in the back and fishes out a nice rusty sway bar with the end links still attached, and starts to take one off. I'm looking at going 'whaaaaaaat?' and I walk over and go 'let me see that'. This end link is COMPLETELY trashed, the rubber is SPINNING in the link. Mine was a little bent, but the bushing was in great shape. "is that the best one you have? the one i'm wanting to replace is in a hell of a lot better shape than THAT thing. You were really gonna charge me MONEY for that?"
Then of course comes Paul condescending attitude. It's no wonder to me that over the past two years i've watched his workforce go from 5 to 1 (him and one other guy, who is a REAL a-hole, Lad is his name). Not a very good mechanic from watching him, and he likes British cars ( so go try and stop leaks on MG's). The first time I went to Absolute, there were mostly 7-8 year and newer cars. Lately it's full of nothing but ratty looking 900's and lots of trashed 9K's, mostly with out of state plates. From what I can tell, a lot of the work is coming back on him, which KILLS auto repair shops more than anything else.
All I can say is, I am NOT pleased at being kept waiting and missing MY work appts, putting me in some gawdawful rush hour traffic when I planned my trip to avoid same, and then THAT BS with an end link that wasn't even usable, and this bozo wants me to take it AND use it. I must look pretty freaking dumb!
All I can say is, Paul, you HAD a good thing going, I highly suggest you get your poop in a group because I will drive to Los Angeles to work with people up there just so I don't have to leave my car in your lot and have your dog piss all over my tires while seagulls crap all over the outside of the car, and to avoid your condescending attitude when the truth of the matter is, you ain't that great of a mechanic based on your comeback ratio!
