Well, I thought I was doing a nice thing.....
I bought a domain name for my family, using our name in it
http://www._____family.com
My sister & husband will soon welcome the family's first grandchild/niece into the brood; I am getting married in the fall; my Dad is HUGE into the geneology of our family.
SO, I thought it would be ideal to share these wonderful events with family and friends through the web (photos, etc.). I proposed these things to my brother and sister, and they said "great, do it right away!" We were going to surprise the folks with it, until.......
My sister's husband says "No way. Too many weirdos on the net." He is very concerned about his privacy (and rightly so; it is his right to keep his privacy) Once he said this, I figured I should ask the parents before I publish anything. Same deal from them re: privacy.
I've never had privacy problems on the net before, though I have heard about them. I figure there is so much content out there that no-one is going to bother with our nice little family site. My brother-in-law will participate if I password-protect the site. My host allows this, though I do not know how to set it up. Plus, if family goes to check the site and they are locked out, that would just kind of suck for them. I know they could just e-mail me for a password; but it is a P. I. T. A. to do that for them.
Please give me your opinions about A) the site idea on the whole; B) the password protection issue; and C) web privacy.
Thanks for your input.
Mike
