My CD burning software converts MP3's into .wavs automatically when I attempt to put mp3 files into an audio compilation to be burned. I never even thought that it wouldn't do that, I have never had a problem with playing burned CD's in my Saab, which is the only place I ever play CD's. I can hardly imagine that this trait in burning software is rare, as this software came with my complete piece of $h!t Ricoh CD burner (never trust 55 year old mothers to buy you neat technology for a Christmas present). This leads me to ask: Why is this Rio Volt machine important? I can appreciate that it spins down the CD to conserve battery life, but other than that I don't see how it's different than a Discman. For my personal listening I have a SensoryScience 64MB portable mp3 player, which I haven't used for months. Feel free to rip this response apart, as I haven't really looked at portable CD players in the 2 years since I've had my MP3 player, and I'm sure they've made leaps and bounds by then that I'm blissfully ignorant of.
