Two months ago I moved into an apartment complex in Carrboro, NC. Within the past couple of weeks, the prevalence of people blasting their bass systems in their cars in the complex has increased dramatically. About fifteen minutes ago there was a car parked right outside my apartment, blasting bass so loud it was setting off another car's alarm. (I wanted to hurl a brick off my deck and onto the car).

The obvious thing for me to do if I have a problem with this is to talk to the people who are making the noise. However, in tonight's example, and in many of the others, the person blasting bass is a spanish speaking hispanic. I do not speak spanish well, and the few hispanics that I have met that live here speak very little english. So you see, I can't ask them to turn it down, because I don't know how to carry on a conversation in spanish.

I have searched the north carolina laws online looking for any sort of a noise rule on cars, but cant seem to find any. Ideally, I would like to be able to call a number and report the car, or lets say video the cars making the noise and show it to a cop and have them give a ticket or something.

It burns me that people can be so oblivious to others around them and blast bass music so loud at any time during the day. The fact that it is after 10pm makes it even more confounding. I really don't want to make a lot of trouble, but this pisses me off, and if there is something I can do to help stop it I want in.

Anyone have experience with this type of thing, or suggestions for me? I am going to go to my super tomorrow and talk about it, doubt they can do anything, but maybe will have suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any advice, if nothing else, this post has helped me vent a bit :)

Brian
