Short question on Reliability, please help!

Hi my name is Jay and I used to be addicted to Oldsmobiles. I know now that I was just being a foolish teenager still caught up in the age of the muscle car. Today is a day of turbos and rpms. Slowly I am falling in love with a Saab I recently bought. It is a bitter sweet relationship because I know that someday soon we may part. You see my girlfriend is going off to college in 2 days and I may switch her cars for the mere fact that the 89 900s is 10 times safer then that P.O.S. tin box on wheels that she drives now. But as you can tell, I'm new to this whole saab thing and well from reading the bulletin board I get the impression that, although fun to drive, saabs seem to breakdown alot. and that is the last thing I want is for her to be on her 4 hour ride to college and find that she just lost her tranny. Please help me make the right decision. Thanks
