Saab is NOT Fiat or Renault -- they should have a solid future in the US and Canada as long as they continue to improve quality and become competitively priced, and Saab is doing so with incentives, rebates, and low-rate financing. A 9-3 SE after incentives is priced about the same as a top-of-the-line Toyota Camry. For $26K-$28K which car would you rather drive? Or be in an accident with?
Saab could build North American sales by continuing their aggressive advertising with an additional shift in focus. In addition to pushing sporty driving, Saab should put safety first and let Nissan do the woo-woo-rock-and-roll-slide-on-the-dry-lake-bed-cause-we're-so-fast commercials. IMHO, Saab should take a page from the Michelin tire playbook and market the cars to women with families. Remember the Michelin commercial with the baby sitting in the tire and the punch line -- there's so much riding on your tires, etc. The same could work for Saab. And the guys would still know they're buying a legitimate car even if their wives think it's only because it's safe.
