This is a lame excuse for an SUV. How often do you go seriously off road with the wife, kids and dog? And you only need 4WD when you are doing serious off road, like rock hopping or hill climbing. You can go down almost any dirt road (true road, not a mud goat path) with 2WD.

Just about any family camping trip is accessible in a 2WD wagon. And if you are taking you family on a rugged camping trip why not consider hiking in?

I agree that there are times where a 4WD or rugged truck-like vehicle are necessary or even desirable, but we Americans tend to justify our desires with specious arguments like - if it snowy and I want to take the wife, kids and dog out somewhere. I much simplier solution is good snow tires or not travelling when the weather is bad enough to need 4WD.
