Most of these car companies have a massive marketing budget. So free use of cars for several months with free insurance etc., helps in putting some makes and models in a better light. Faults are not easily mentined in any write-ups, otherwise no free use of a car next time round!
Observe the fake wood and leather in some Mercs. My 9-3 leather is the real thing, but I hear little being said about that faked luxury in the Merc. And what about the comfortable seats in the 9-3, compared to those hard plates in a Merc?
All that Japanese glitter and speed is also not all gold. Almost every part ever fitted in a SAAB can be sourced from somewhere. Try that with one of those Samourai GTi's! And when did you last see a 20 year old Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Honda in prestine conditions and still desirable?
Let the reviewers mention those factors as well. And whilst they are at it, perhaps they can also mention a few japanese cars with more than 200K on the clock after years of use?
