I had one made a couple of months ago and the total cost was under $50.
I called the parts counter of Saabnet BBS sponser "Saab Center" (1-800-749-1806), gave them my key code and ordered a model year 1999/2000 key to be cut to that code. (Don't get a m/y 2001 key - it is about $150 because it includes the remote). The '99/'00 key is made up of two seperate parts, each with it's own part number. One part is the key blank (which they will cut to your key code) and the other part is the transponder, which is the top half of the black plastic part of the key. Saab Center sells Saab parts and accessories to Saabnet users (be sure to mention Saabnet) for 20% off, plus shipping, and I think the total cost, after Saabnet discount, was around $42.
Then I took the new key to my favorate local independant repair shop, and he used his Tech II to program the key transponder into the car. -->>> Be sure to bring ALL of your 9-5 keys with you for this - you MUST have all keys present to add a key to the car. <<<-- I don't know what your local Saab dealer would charge to program the key to the car, but if you had that done at the same time as a scheduled service, there should only be a nominal charge.
