I think that you should definitely go with some brand of Palm Pilot. Personally I have a Handspring. I think that the Pocket PCs are trying to do too much and are overloaded with crap, and you'd be better off saving your money for a laptop. My Handspring is B&W, but I got it before color ones were out, so I guess color would be nice.
Ask yourself what are you going to use it for. I think that they are most helpful for address books, lists, memos, notes. I've got my Handspring with Wordsmith software and a foldable keyboard so that I can type word files straight onto it. It rocks. That's all you need. And with Handspring, I've got a backup module that goes in the expansion slot so that you can backup to there and not have to worry as much if you are away from your computer and can't sync.
