the car was going, how big/sharp was the object, and where the hit was.
Not sure about "a pebble jumped up" theory but I would surmise she could be following a car/truch that threw a loose object either by the tire or from a truck bed.
The radiator may have a weak spot and the object may not be a pebble but a sharp metal object.
$500, I presume includes everything, may be a bit high. I would suggest asking around with other Honda dealers. Not all dealers charge the same.
Luck it was a small leak, otherwise she could be paying for a new engine instead.
