Right now here in Eastern Switzerland
we got a cold wave... hehe -15C during
the night, -7C during the day.

As most of you know, SALT has little effect on
ice when temps reach around -7C hehe

As a result there is plenty of Black ICE
on our roads, plenty.

So this morning I go to a little town in
the area to buy some stuff before I go to work...

As I was driving around slowly in my SAAB, following
the speed limit and keeping plenty of distance, a very
nervous man driving his 500S (new model) pops out
in front of me... he then drives rather quickly
and starts a sharp right turn to enter garage
which is underneeth some office building...

At first the car turned nicely into the garage entry
but then proceeded straight ahead right into
the steel pole where the user should use his key
to open the garage... hehe BLACK ICE in the garage
entry, and a RWD car turns very little if the front
wheels are on ICE and the rear wheels on a clear road.
As I passed him, I did see the damage to his left
fender and front bumper. Be reasured, the poor steel
pole was fine ;)

SO... I drive on, and park next to the shop I needed to
go to. As I walk from my car to the shop... a FORD
Escort decides to park in the middle of a T crossing.
Now the Fiat Panda coming downhill, tried to turn left
and hit right into the Ford. Not much damage just 2 damaged
bumpers as the Fiat hit the FORDs rear bumper. Now as
there was some traffic, the lane going south had to stop
as their lane was blocked by the FORD and the FIAT, as I was
inside the shop paying for my goods, a COLT drives into the
FIAT, cause it was coming too fast. Again only bumper damage,
now rear Fiat vs front COLT.

Black ICE is rather dangerous and people here have
some problems with it as they never keep enough
distance to the front driver. COLD will stay another
week, so I guess there will be more of these occurances.

Regards,
Coolknight
