Went to the dealer here in Asheville yesterday, and they offered me $2k for Erica's trade. They had a gorgeous 2002 SE Convertible in Hazlenut brown with tan interior. Two problems: the tan interior would get dirty in two weeks. I told Eric it had the tan, and he said to stay away from that because of the dirt retention issue; also, the Hazlenut, while a gorgeous color, is not Erica's first choice. She really wants a Sun Green one, and I found one on-line (not on TSN, though; d'oh) The car was also $44k on the sticker, and it was the only one they had. This dealer is not known for being "competitive". They also sell Porsches and Audis, and a few other makes. I told the sales guy (who was super nice, not slimeball typical) that I was into Porsches also, and he took me into their garage to show me a very rare beast: a 1995 928 GTS with a manual gearbox. One of 30 imported into the US, and it only has 12K miles on it. Of course, they wanted $65K for it. Ouch. They did have a nice TT convertible in the showroom for $38K. 6 spd. Yum.
Anyway, the finance payements were still out of our range. Close, but I can get a better deal elsewhere.
As far as the woes I was having yesterday, I'm just going to have to chalk it up to the bitter cold here. My theory is that, given that the temps dropped to below 20 degrees Friady night, the hoses contracted, leaving tiny gaps in betwen the hose clamps and hoses. I was able to tighten up 4 hose clamps (1/2 turn each), and the problem has disappeared. Another thing I just remembered: I modified the cold start ignition on her car (took out the loop that sends hot coolant through the throttle body and back to the head; just ran it straight to the head) Maybe that had something to do with it. Probably not, though, since that is designed for super low temps in Sweden (below zero).
I've been driving it around, and so far so good. We shall see hwo it holds up on the long trip. If I make it to say Harrissonburg, I'll ring you up for a ride! : )
