MOst cleaners are alkaline or bases. undiluted Simple Green general purpose cleaner has a pH of 9.5. Other undiluted cleaners range from a pH of 9 to 13.
Aluminum is a very reactive metal. When I worked as a clean room engineer, I had some .040" thick aluminum plates have holes etched completely through the plates when a technicain left them hanging on stainless steel hooks in a de-ionized water tank overnight.
My point is simply this. A thorough water rinsing is required for any cleaner, solvent, or spilled automotive fluid, used around the engine compartment.
