This is what the 9-3X concept should have been like Posted by Paul [Email] (#792) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Paul) on Mon, 7 Jan 2002 20:24:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |

Although I doubt those 'suicide doors' will make it to production it just goes to show you what can be done if you REALLY put your mind to it. The car looks like it has acres of space and shows very distinct Mercedes styling cues that still allow the car to be practical and very classy.
I very much like the front end of the 9-3X and the 9X concept cars and hope that Saab has shown us the new face of Saab cars to come; however, the 9-3X concept car is way too small - unless Michael Mauer is 8ft tall -and quite hideous from the side view. While I applaude the use of some very distinct Saab styling cues such as the side window design from the classic 900 they all come together to look rather silly on a car that is probably no bigger than a Ford Focus ZX3. The sliding floor is a completely useless feature and that interior is the UGLIEST car interior I have seen in years and has about as much class as a Lada or Yugo! If Saab is to become more than just a niche player in the world it has to come up with something that is a little more conservative but with a very distinct Saab style just like they did with the 9-5 which, correct me if I am wrong, is the best selling Saab model of all time.
Im sure the 9-3X will evolve into something that is saleable but they
really should have gotten it right the first time as it may be too late by the time the car hits the market.
Im sure people will disagree with me but IMHO the Saab brand should be distinctive without being butt-ugly!
