Had a similiar problem on my 9-5 when one of our fine Florida gentlemen drivers threw his empty beer can out the window and it hit our windshield. My wife was driving and I was not in the car to respond to the friendly gester in a proper manner. It left what was a pretty easy to see/feel scratch. I used a product which you can buy in the supermarket called "Bon Ami". It is a very fine cleaner that is not abrasive. I carefully went over the windshield several times, and after awhile the scratch dissapeared without any reflections. I used a wet clean sponge with the Bon Ami, and continually wet and cleaned the area. After you are done for the day with this, wash the area down good as the Bon Ami will leave a white powder on things, not harmful....just looks like amthrax. This was much better than replacing the windshield, and today you cannot see the scratch, no matter how hard you try. Be careful though with any polishing of the windshield. Too much abrasion can cause reflections that cannot be removed. This can be real annoying and dangerous on a rainy night. Try the Bon Ami before anything abrasive. Hope this works for you too.
