The other problem is that when the weather is snowy they can get coated with ice/snow and not be read by the tollbooth - ask me how I know.
As for the adhesive, at least with NY's EZPass there are 2 small velcro-type strips that glue to the windshield and they come right off with a razor, or even with a heatgun to loosen the adhesive, then clean with your favorite adhesive remover.
I think I may go back to a windshield mount on my '94 9000 and see if it registers, despite the car being on the list for problem windshields.
