The easiest way I know to check your odometer is to find a stretch of
highway where they have mileposts along the side of the road every mile,
like they do here in Ks. Then with a stop watch check the time between
two adjacent mileposts while you do your best to drive an indicated 60 mph.
The difference between one minute (60 seconds) shows how much your speedo
is off. Tires make a big difference. I've got big tires on the rear of my
truck that makes the trued speed 10 mph faster than indicated, which I have
to allow for in low speed limits. Theres another way to check your tachometer and/or final drive ratio, which involves measuring the radius of
one of the drive wheels between the ground and the center of the axle hub.
Theres a long formula that can give you the revs per mile based on that
measurement and from that true RPM, but I've forgot what it is and it takes
awhile to figure out. Luck! "The KsKid"
