Car Magazine March 2002 interesting article ..... Posted by Paul [Email] ![]() ![]() |
says that Saab will introduce 5 new models in the next five years including a seven seat SUV based on the Cadillac SRX in 2005. Saab sees itself as a 'post-modern luxury car manufacturer' whose buyers are individualists who 'reject the mainstream and status symbols like a BMW and Merc and may see itself as a Scandinavian Audi whose cars will be 'sporty, multi-dynamic cars inspired by their Scandinavian origin for modern, individual premium drivers'. They go on to say that 40% of all Saabs sold are convertibles or Aero models AND that the will be NO HATCHBACK!!! Future design eccentricity will be replaced by Germanic restraint as it is thought 'Saab quirkiness puts off more buyers than it attracts'. The new 9-3 will be powered by a range of turbo engines from 150-250bhp and will have an all-aluminum, multi-link suspension on what has been described as an extremely rigid Epsilon chassis. The 9X and 9-3X are NOT indicative of what future Saabs will look like. Finally, Bob Lutz has driven the new 9-3 and 'came back with a big smile on his face' and Bob drives a 9-5 Aero.
My bet is that Saab is going after Audi and the new 9-3 wont look an awful lot different to the new A4. I, for one, am very excited by this uplifting article and cant wait to see the new 9-3!
