Turbos are much more efficient than superchargers. As was mentioned, turbochargers harness and put to use (I'm as far from being a physicist as possible, so correct me, please)kinetic and heat energy that would otherwise be wasted. Turbochargers operate at around 70-80 percent efficiency, a good supercharger is lucky to break 50. Turbochargers are also immune to backfiring. A supercharger uses a positive action, like a pump, to compress the air, meaning that a backfire can break the device, or, as I watched a dragster do on ESPN, launch the supercharger into the stands. True, fuel injected cars dont backfire the same way carbureted cars can, but it still happens. Yes, I am biased, but for good reason.
Feeling Opinionated,
Cam
