I bought a ReplayTV over 3 yrs ago and it's one of my most cherished toys. I hardly watch live TV anymore as it's actively collecting the things I want to watch and saving them for me for later, 24 hours a day. I really like the ReplayTV and when I bought it 3 yrs ago, it was the same price as a Tivo, but there was no monthly service fee, so I've saved the entire cost of the system in service fees already. Also, my ReplayTV that's 3 years old has more features than my Uncle's Tivo that he bought 3 months ago. That said, I was looking at some new ReplayTV systems (you can send shows across the Internet from one ReplayTV system to another! uh-oh! - you can send a photo slide show from your computer across the Internet to your (or another ) ReplayTV system, MP3 music capabilities, and a built in DVD player), but the prices are now quite disparate between Tivo and ReplayTV with Tivo being much less expensive. Even with the extra features (unless you have not yet bought a DVD player) and the extra Tivo service fees, I'm not sure ReplayTV is the best buy anymore (too bad). Anyway, a DVR is a great thing when the shows you want to watch are scheduled at inconvenient times (I don't have patience to set a VCR (tapes, yech) for single records and rewinding/fast forwarding - I want everyone NOW).
We don't even get Speedchannel where I live.
