My undergraduate major is political science with a minor in history. My graduate degree is history with a concentration in international relations. I enjoyed both degrees, and contrary to what my engineering friends say, I have done very little memorizing but have learned many things about the world in which we live. It's about people and the events they bring about, and are bringing about. It's uncanny how things that happened 50, 100, 400, or even 1000 years ago have a way of staying in the collective memory of a group of people to haunt us today. Understanding that should help us make better decisions. Not understanding that is simply dangerous. A history degree is useful for a variety of jobs. Some of the obvious were mentioned in other posts: teacher, foreign service, law. I had several friends who went to journalism, public service, and law enforcement. I found it useful throughout my 20 years as an Air Force officer. I love flying, and the Air Force presented an opportunity to put the two interests together.
