The Camero and Trans Am are really interesting cars. The engine is an obsolete pushrod V-8, the suspension is obsolete (especially the rear suspension and drivetrain), the cowl is high and hard to see over for medium to short height people, the seats are unsupportive, and the interior looks cheap. Theoretically, it shouldn't appeal to anyone, but it does. There's a part of it that even appeals to the European car guys in most of the car magazines. Read any car mag article about the Camero or Trans Am; the author will slam the car for its obsolete engine, suspension, and cheesy interior, but at the end they usually say something like, "Despite its shortcomings, the Camero/Trans Am can be entertaining and fun to drive." I think there is a recessive gene in most Americans that is a legacy from America's love affair with the V-8 engine in the '50s and '60s. There's something in most of us that still likes the sound and feel of a big old American V-8 hauling a** down the highway. There really is nothing like it anywhere else in the world. If you've never driven an American V-8, try it - I think you'll like it. And this from a guy who hasn't ever owned a car with an American V-8, but I've driven lots of them owned by friends and relatives. I'm not saying that you'll want to own an American V-8 car, but it is a unique experience. Don't get me started about a friend's 1969 Dodge Charger that I had a chance to buy in the mid '70s, but passed on!
